Slow Cooker Buttered Cabbage
This easy slow cooker cabbage is tender, buttery, and full of savory flavor. It pairs perfectly with roasted meats, sausages, or potatoes.
Ingredients
1 large green cabbage, cored and cut into wedges or thick slices
4 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into pieces
1 small onion, thinly sliced
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 cup (240 ml) chicken or vegetable broth
1 teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon smoked paprika (optional)
1 teaspoon dried thyme (optional)
Instructions
Place the cabbage and sliced onion into the slow cooker.
Sprinkle with the garlic, salt, pepper, paprika, and thyme.
Dot the top with the butter.
Pour the broth around the cabbage.
Cover and cook:
Low: 5–6 hours, or
High: 2½–3 hours, until the cabbage is tender but not falling apart.
Gently stir before serving and spoon some of the buttery cooking juices over the cabbage.

Crumbled cooked bacon
Sliced smoked sausage or kielbasa
Diced carrots
A pinch of red pepper flakes for heat
Fresh chopped parsley for garnish
