French Onion Beef Casserole

French Onion Beef Casserole
A comforting casserole with seasoned ground beef, tender pasta, rich French onion flavor, and plenty of melted cheese.
Ingredients
1 lb (450 g) lean ground beef
1 tablespoon butter
1 medium onion, thinly sliced
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 packet (1 oz) French onion soup mix
2 cups beef broth
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
8 oz (225 g) egg noodles or rotini pasta
1 cup sour cream
1½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese
½ cup shredded Gruyère or Swiss cheese
Salt and black pepper, to taste
1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
Cook the pasta in salted boiling water until just al dente. Drain and set aside.
In a large skillet over medium-high heat, brown the ground beef. Drain any excess fat.
Add the butter and sliced onion. Cook for 8–10 minutes until the onions are soft and lightly caramelized. Stir in the garlic and cook for 1 minute.
Sprinkle in the French onion soup mix. Add the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce. Simmer for 5 minutes.
Remove from the heat and stir in the sour cream until smooth.
Fold in the cooked pasta and half of the mozzarella cheese.
Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish. Top with the remaining mozzarella and the Gruyère or Swiss cheese.
Bake for 20–25 minutes, until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and lightly golden.
Let the casserole rest for 5 minutes before serving. Garnish with chopped parsley if desired.
