Slow Cooker Buttered Cabbage
This simple, buttery cabbage is tender, flavorful, and makes an easy side dish for chicken, pork, beef, or sausages.
Ingredients
1 large head green cabbage, cored and cut into wedges or chopped
½ cup (1 stick/115 g) unsalted butter, sliced
1 small onion, thinly sliced
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon onion powder
½ teaspoon smoked paprika (optional)
½ cup chicken broth (or vegetable broth)
1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
Place the chopped cabbage in the slow cooker.
Add the sliced onion and minced garlic.
Scatter the butter over the cabbage.
Sprinkle with the salt, pepper, onion powder, and smoked paprika.
Pour the chicken broth around the edges.
Cover and cook:
Low: 5–6 hours
High: 2½–3 hours
Stir gently once or twice during cooking if possible.
Taste and adjust the seasoning before serving. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.
