Crispy Cheese Bun Burgers
Ingredients
For the cheese buns:
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp Italian seasoning
½ tsp onion powder
Pinch of black pepper
For the burgers:
1 lb (450 g) ground beef
Salt and black pepper, to taste
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce (optional)
4 slices provolone, mozzarella, or pepper jack cheese
Optional toppings:
Sliced pickles
Lettuce
Tomato
Sautéed onions
Jalapeños
Burger sauce or mayonnaise
Instructions
Prepare the cheese buns:
Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
Line a baking tray with parchment paper.
Mix the cheddar, mozzarella, garlic powder, onion powder, Italian seasoning, and pepper.
Divide into 8 equal mounds and flatten each into a 4-inch (10 cm) circle.
Bake for 8–12 minutes, or until golden brown around the edges.
Let cool for 5–10 minutes so they crisp up.
Cook the burgers:
Season the ground beef with salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce.
Form into 4 patties.
Grill or pan-fry over medium-high heat for 4–5 minutes per side, or until cooked to your preferred doneness.
During the last minute, top each patty with a slice of cheese and let it melt.
Assemble:
Place one cheese bun on the bottom.
Add the burger patty, your favorite toppings, and any sauce.
Finish with another crispy cheese bun.
Tips
Let the cheese buns cool completely before handling—they become crisp as they cool.
For extra flavor, sprinkle sesame seeds or everything bagel seasoning on the cheese before baking.
Serve with a side salad, roasted vegetables, or zucchini fries for a complete low-carb meal.
