Classic Tasty Apple Pie

🍎 Classic Tasty Apple Pie
A buttery, flaky crust filled with tender cinnamon-spiced apples and baked until golden and bubbling. Perfect with a scoop of vanilla ice cream!
🥧 Ingredients
For the crust:
2½ cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp salt
1 tbsp granulated sugar
1 cup (225 g) cold unsalted butter, cubed
6–8 tbsp ice-cold water
For the apple filling:
6–7 medium apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
¾ cup granulated sugar
¼ cup packed brown sugar
2 tbsp all-purpose flour
1½ tsp ground cinnamon
¼ tsp ground nutmeg
¼ tsp salt
1 tbsp lemon juice
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 tbsp butter, cut into small pieces
For the top:
1 egg
1 tbsp water
1 tbsp coarse sugar, optional
👩‍🍳 Instructions
Make the crust: In a large bowl, whisk together flour, salt, and sugar. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs with some pea-sized pieces remaining.
Add ice water, 1 tablespoon at a time, tossing gently until the dough comes together. Don’t overmix.
Divide the dough into two portions. Shape each into a disk, wrap, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
Prepare the filling: In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, lemon juice, and vanilla. Toss until evenly coated.
Assemble: Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Roll out one dough disk and fit it into a 9-inch pie dish, leaving some overhang.
Pour the apple mixture into the crust and dot the top with the 2 tablespoons of butter.
Roll out the second dough disk and place it over the apples. Trim excess dough, then crimp the edges to seal. Cut several small slits in the top to allow steam to escape.
Beat the egg with 1 tablespoon water and brush it over the crust. Sprinkle with coarse sugar if desired.
Bake: Place the pie on a baking sheet. Bake at 425°F (220°C) for 20 minutes.
Reduce the oven temperature to 375°F (190°C) and bake for another 35–45 minutes, until the crust is deeply golden and the filling is bubbling.
If the edges brown too quickly, cover them loosely with aluminum foil.
Let the pie cool for at least 2 hours before slicing so the filling can set.
🍦 Serve
Serve warm with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, or a drizzle of caramel sauce.
Tip: Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or a mixture of tart and sweet apples works especially well for a flavorful filling.
