Best Grilled Cheese Sandwich
A perfectly crispy, buttery grilled cheese with a gooey blend of melted cheeses.
Ingredients
4 slices thick-cut sourdough or country bread
2 tbsp softened butter (or mayonnaise for an extra crispy crust)
2 slices sharp cheddar cheese
2 slices mozzarella cheese
2 slices Gruyère or Monterey Jack cheese (optional, for extra flavor)
1/4 tsp garlic powder
1/4 tsp onion powder
Pinch of black pepper
1 tsp chopped fresh parsley (optional)
Instructions
Spread the softened butter evenly on one side of each slice of bread.
In a small bowl, mix the garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper.
Place two slices of bread, butter-side down, on a cutting board. Sprinkle lightly with the seasoning.
Layer the cheddar, mozzarella, and Gruyère evenly on top. Cover with the remaining bread slices, butter-side up.
Heat a large nonstick skillet or griddle over low to medium-low heat.
Cook the sandwiches for 3–5 minutes per side, pressing gently with a spatula, until the bread is deep golden brown and crisp and the cheese is completely melted.
If the bread browns too quickly before the cheese melts, reduce the heat and cover the pan with a lid for 1–2 minutes.
Let the sandwiches rest for 1 minute, then slice in half and serve immediately.
