🥔 Slow Cooker Sausage & Pierogies
Serves: 6
Prep time: 10 minutes
Cook time: 4–5 hours on LOW
🛒 Ingredients
1 package (16 oz / 450 g) frozen pierogies, any flavor
1 lb (450 g) smoked sausage or kielbasa, sliced into ½-inch rounds
1 medium onion, sliced
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 cups chicken broth
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
½ cup sour cream
2 tbsp butter, melted
1 tsp Dijon mustard
½ tsp smoked paprika
½ tsp black pepper
½ tsp salt, or to taste
1 tbsp chopped fresh parsley, for garnish
👩🍳 Instructions
Prepare the slow cooker: Lightly grease a 6-quart slow cooker with cooking spray or a little butter.
Layer the ingredients: Add the sliced sausage and onion to the slow cooker. Place the frozen pierogies on top.
Make the sauce: In a bowl, whisk together the chicken broth, melted butter, Dijon mustard, smoked paprika, black pepper, and salt.
Pour over: Pour the mixture evenly over the pierogies and sausage. Add the minced garlic.
Cook: Cover and cook on LOW for 4–5 hours, or until the pierogies are tender and heated through. Avoid overcooking, as pierogies can become mushy.
Add the creamy finish: During the last 20–30 minutes, gently stir in the sour cream and shredded cheddar cheese. Cover and let the cheese melt.
Serve: Stir gently, garnish with fresh parsley, and serve hot.
⭐ Optional Additions
Add ½ cup sliced mushrooms with the onions.
Stir in ½ cup sauerkraut for a tangy version.
