Ingredients

  • 12 oz egg noodles
  • 1 packet (about 1 oz) dry onion soup mix
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1½ cups chicken broth or beef broth
  • ½ cup milk
  • 4 tablespoons butter, melted
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ cup shredded Parmesan cheese, optional
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese, optional
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Cook the noodles in a large pot of salted water until just al dente, about 1–2 minutes less than the package directions. Drain well.
  3. Make the sauce: In a large bowl, whisk together the cream of mushroom soup, sour cream, broth, milk, melted butter, onion soup mix, garlic powder, and black pepper.
  4. Combine: Add the drained noodles to the sauce and toss until thoroughly coated.
  5. Transfer everything to the prepared baking dish and spread evenly.
  6. Cover tightly with foil and bake for 25 minutes.
  7. Remove the foil. Sprinkle Parmesan and cheddar over the top, if using.
  8. Return to the oven, uncovered, and bake for another 10–15 minutes, until bubbling and lightly golden.
  9. Let stand for 5–10 minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh parsley.

🍽️ Tips

  • For extra richness, use half-and-half instead of milk.
  • Add sautĂ©ed mushrooms or caramelized onions for more flavor.
  • For a heartier Amish-style meal, stir in cooked ground beef, shredded chicken, or leftover roast beef.
  • Don’t overcook the noodles before baking—they’ll continue cooking in the oven.
