🧅 Oven-Baked Amish Onion Soup Mix Noodles
Ingredients
- 12 oz egg noodles
- 1 packet (about 1 oz) dry onion soup mix
- 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1½ cups chicken broth or beef broth
- ½ cup milk
- 4 tablespoons butter, melted
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- ½ cup shredded Parmesan cheese, optional
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese, optional
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley, for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Cook the noodles in a large pot of salted water until just al dente, about 1–2 minutes less than the package directions. Drain well.
- Make the sauce: In a large bowl, whisk together the cream of mushroom soup, sour cream, broth, milk, melted butter, onion soup mix, garlic powder, and black pepper.
- Combine: Add the drained noodles to the sauce and toss until thoroughly coated.
- Transfer everything to the prepared baking dish and spread evenly.
- Cover tightly with foil and bake for 25 minutes.
- Remove the foil. Sprinkle Parmesan and cheddar over the top, if using.
- Return to the oven, uncovered, and bake for another 10–15 minutes, until bubbling and lightly golden.
- Let stand for 5–10 minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh parsley.
🍽️ Tips
- For extra richness, use half-and-half instead of milk.
- Add sautéed mushrooms or caramelized onions for more flavor.
- For a heartier Amish-style meal, stir in cooked ground beef, shredded chicken, or leftover roast beef.
- Don’t overcook the noodles before baking—they’ll continue cooking in the oven.
